AUGUSTA, Ga. — One person was killed in a shooting Tuesday at Augusta Mall, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday afternoon.
Officials confirmed the report of an active shooter at the shopping center earlier in the day.
The sheriff’s office said they currently have two subjects in custody and are searching for two more.
The condition of the person that was shot wasn’t disclosed. The mall is now closed until further notice.
“Deputies are having to clear store by store to look for anybody that is still inside hiding and or possibly having a medical emergency,” the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office reported. “This process will take a while, so we thank you for your patience and cooperation in advance!”
Sheriff’s deputies urged people to avoid the area, the department said in a statement.
The Richmond County Marshals Office also said it responded to the shooting.
