EVERETT, Wash. — The Everett Fire Department (EFD) says two people have died in a four-car crash on Friday afternoon.
At around 12 p.m., crews responded near 19th Avenue Southeast and 100th Street Southeast to a multi-vehicle crash.
Everett Police said a car traveling southbound on 19th Ave SE veered into the northbound lanes, striking a car head-on and leading to a chain reaction involving several other cars.
The vehicle that veered across traffic ultimately struck a pole and flipped over, trapping three people inside.
“I saw a dark colored SUV catapulting through the air,” said one woman who asked KIRO 7 not to share her name. “It was high up in the air. Maybe 15-20 feet in the air.”
The two adults in the front seat, a man and a woman in their late 80s, were killed. A person in the backseat was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
“I pray that whoever’s at the hospital is still alive can make it and make a full recovery,” the woman said. “For those that have passed, that they find their families find peace.”
Two other people were evaluated on the scene, according to Everett Fire.
The road was closed for hours Friday as crews investigated and cleaned up the crash. It reopened just after 4 p.m.
Kayla Boede works a daycare nearby. Her children were inside the daycare when the crash happened.
“It was pretty intense,” she said. “It was scary. Fire trucks everywhere.”
She said if her children had come out a few minutes earlier, she worries it “could have been” them.
Police have not identified the victim. They are still investigating what caused the car to veer into oncoming traffic.
This is a developing story.
