SEATTLE, Wash. — Seattle police say they may have arrested a driver after the person hit three pedestrians in the crosswalk and drove away.
According to police, the person they arrested may or may not be connected to this incident. They are still investigating.
It happened around 1:30 p.m. at 15th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 47th Street in the University District.
Police say all three people have life-threatening injuries.
According to the Seattle Fire Department, the three victims are an approximately 25-year-old man in critical condition, an approximately 20-year-old woman in critical condition, and an approximately 21-year-old man in stable condition.
All three people were transported to Harborview Medical Center.
Officers found a possible suspect a short time later and arrested them.
Officers also located the car they believe was involved abandoned east of the scene. They described it as a white Kia Sol with a cracked window.
A University of Washington employee told KIRO 7 he had seen that same car driving erratically near campus just before the incident occurred.
“We stopped at a stop sign and the white Kia swerved from behind us almost taking out a kid that was walking through the crosswalk,” said the employee, Matt. “He just continued at full speed through campus we watched him narrowly miss people and then trying to go around vehicles. After that, we lost sight of him and I believe when that happened is when this happened.”
Matt said he wished the driver could have been stopped.
“These people are everywhere,” he said.
Police have not identified the person arrested or provided any additional details about what led up to the incident. They also have not identified the victims.
