SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — The Sedro-Woolley Police Department (SWPD) says one person has died, and five were injured in a shooting on Saturday night.
At around 11:20 p.m. officers responded to calls that multiple people had been shot near Memorial Park, SWPD said.
Police say one person was pronounced dead and five others injured in the shooting were brought to local hospitals for further treatment.
One person is in custody and has been booked in the Skagit County Jail, officials say. Police haven’t said if they are searching for anyone else.
Whitley and Kyle Radabah were watching TV in their home near the park when the shooting happened. When they heard the gunfire, Whitley said she wasn’t sure if it was coming from the television or if it was fireworks outside.
“We heard the screaming, and were like, ‘Something’s going on here,’” Kyle said.
“We saw kids screaming and running from the playground,” Whitley said.
“At first I thought it was kids on the playground. They’re running and they’re screaming and they’re playing, and then when they started yelling, ‘Hide, hide,’ and you could hear the panic, then we knew what was going on.”
Investigators stayed on scene collecting evidence through Sunday afternoon, including two firearms.
Sedro-Woolley police say there is no known threat to the public, but ask anyone with photos or videos of the incident to call police at 360-428-3211.
Police have not yet identified the victims or shared their ages, but Harborview Medical Center officials say they treated two adults from the scene, including a 47-year-old man and 21-year-old woman. Both were in satisfactory condition Sunday.
