MARYSVILLE, Wash. — A man in Marysville was found unconscious and not breathing on Monday morning at around 6:17 a.m. near 2nd Street and Beach Avenue.
After a neighbor found the 66-year-old man lying on the sidewalk, police determined he had been stabbed and died at the scene, according to a release from Marysville Police.
“George was a wonderful person, he cared about people, he helped homeless people… so it’s really sad,” said Gary Flammang, who called 911 after finding his friend lying on the sidewalk.
Flammang believes he saw the attacker just minutes earlier outside his Marysville home.
“He had the hoodie on and a coat… had a cell phone right up to his mouth like that, so you couldn’t really identify him,” he added.
Flammang says he went to get dressed, then looked out of his window and saw his friend on the ground.
“He’s laying on his back, and I immediately called 911 and got them on the phone and asked for police and ambulance, and started CPR right away,” he said.
Police say they used a drone and a K-9 to search the area but did not find any suspects.
Marysville PD also confirmed they believed this was an isolated incident and did not pose an immediate threat to the public.
