Car crushed under semi-truck during morning commute in Auburn; driver killed

At least one person dead in crash with semi-truck on SR-167

AUBURN, Wash. — A 29-year-old was killed early Thursday morning when his car was crushed by a semi-truck in a crash.

The crash was reported on State Route 167 and State Route 18 in Auburn around 7:14 a.m.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the car had stopped for traffic when the 29-year-old driver was rear-ended by someone who didn’t slow down.

The force of the hit from behind pushed the 29-year-old’s car under a semi-truck in front of him.

His vehicle caught fire, but it was immediately extinguished.

The 29-year-old driver from Bonney Lake was pronounced dead.

The roadway was blocked for nearly seven hours.

The causing driver, a 25-year-old from California, was arrested for vehicular homicide.

According to WSP, no drugs or alcohol were involved.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
