3 in custody after student assaulted outside Highline High School, firearm involved

BURIEN, Wash. — A student was reportedly hurt by a gun at Highline High School in Burien on Monday, prompting a campus-wide lockdown.

According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened outside the school in a campus parking lot just before 1 p.m.

Students reported being threatened by several people with a weapon. The student who was hurt was a minor, and the sheriff’s office says the gun was not fired, but was used to injure them.

Several law enforcement agencies swarmed the school and nearby areas.

The sheriff’s office says three students, all boys under the age of 18, were taken into custody.

Parents told KIRO 7 they were in tears rushing to get to the school when they heard their kids might be in danger.

By 2:40 p.m., the lockdown was lifted, and students were released.

The sheriff’s office says they are going to recommend charges of felony assault for the three suspects.

The school will be back open on Tuesday.
