‘Belgian Fire’ in Brinnon reduced to Level 1 evacuations; residents can return home

BRINNON, Wash. — A fire burning in Brinnon, Jefferson County, has been reduced from a Level 3 “go now” evacuation order to a Level 1 “be ready” evacuation order.

The Belgian Fire was reported around 2:43 p.m. on July 15. The initial evacuation alert was issued for residents on Belgian Drive, Morocco Place, Rock Brook Road, Arabian Drive and Shetland Lane.

The evacuation alert was soon upgraded to a level 3, and first responders went door-to-door telling people to leave.

As of 8 p.m., the fire was contained enough where the Jefferson County Emergency Management reduced the threat level to a Level 1, telling locals it was safe to return home.

However, locals should still be ready to leave in case conditions change.

Firefighters say the fire started as a house fire that spread. It has burned a little over five acres.

A total of two structures have been lost in the fire, one abandoned home and an unoccupied travel trailer.

This is a developing story. KIRO 7 will have updates as they become available.
