The Mayor of Burlington has lifted evacuation orders for some residents and businesses in West Burlington.
Residents and businesses west of the north-south railroad tracks can return to their homes.
Evacuations are still in place for the remaining Burlington residents.
Residents were asked to evacuate immediately due to rising floodwaters from Gages Slough early Friday morning.
So far, about 1,000 people have evacuated.
The National Guard is going door to door, alerting people of the dangers of the floodwaters.
They’re working their way to those who aren’t seeing water yet but could later and will continue this through the day.
They are working with local teams and taking military trucks into high water and using kayaks and rafts to reach people.
No injuries or deaths at this time.
“Could’ve been worse for sure, but this took a whole lot of people by surprise,” Major General Welsh told KIRO 7 News.
Two new shelters are open, including one at Bayview Elementary. Check the incident page here for current shelter information: www.skagitcounty.net/flood
