FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Amazon is closing one of its Amazon Fresh stores in Federal Way.
According to a worker adjustment and retraining notification, the closure will affect 125 employees
The last day of business was Sunday.
The store was in operation for three years.
KIRO 7 News reached out to Amazon about the closure.
“Certain store locations work better than others, and after an assessment of our offering, we’ve decided to close our Amazon Fresh store in Federal Way. Customers in the area can continue to shop from a wide selection of grocery products at Amazon.com/grocery with same-day delivery options, including selection from Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and our grocery partners, depending on location," said Griffin Buch, Amazon spokesperson. “Store employees are being supported through this transition and will have the opportunity to transfer to roles at one of our nearby sites. We remain committed to making grocery shopping easier, faster, and more affordable, and will continue to refine our portfolio of stores as we learn which locations and features resonate most with customers.”
The company has three other Amazon Fresh stores in Washington: one in Bellevue and two in Seattle.
Last week, Amazon shuttered a Whole Foods location in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood after seven years.
