I'm Tyrah Majors, a two-time Emmy Award-winning journalist, professor, and children’s book author. Join me on KIRO 7 News in the Morning from 4:30am-7AM to stay up to date on the day's biggest stories. Where did you grow up? I was born and raised in San Diego, California. Why did you become a journalist? I've always been curious, loved talking to people, and enjoyed writing. Journalism allows me to tell impactful stories, amplify voices that are often underrepresented, and make a meaningful difference in the communities I serve. What cities have you worked in during your journalism career? I earned my master's degree in journalism from USC Annenberg and my bachelor's degree from Cal State Fullerton. I started my career as a morning reporter in Bakersfield, California, before moving to Seattle, where I've worked as a traffic anchor, show host and currently a reporter. What's the most memorable story you've ever covered? One of my favorite stories was sitting down with Jonathan Batista, the Pacific Northwest Ballet's first Black principal dancer, to share his inspiring journey. Covering the Seahawks' Super Bowl run was another unforgettable career highlight. What are you most proud of in your career in news? I'm proud to have been named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for my work co-creating a three-hour local news program and creating a mobile-story curriculum at Seattle University. What's something people don't know about you? I’m very artistic! I love to sketch, paint, and play piano. I'm also a huge pop music fan—I've seen Beyoncé in concert seven times! What do you like to do when you're not working? You'll usually find me traveling somewhere new, trying great restaurants, or spending quality time with family and friends.
